About the position

As the Food Pantry Assistant LTE (Limited Term Employee) under the supervision of the Social Services Coordinator, you will play a vital role in planning, assessing, organizing, and overseeing the daily activities of the Food Pantry program. This position is designed to support clients facing food insecurity, particularly those affected by HIV/AIDS, and to help them build healthier futures while reducing stigma. Your responsibilities will include coordinating volunteer services for the Food Pantry, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. In this role, you will be responsible for receiving food and supply deliveries, selecting and picking up food from suppliers, and stocking the Food Pantry to optimize the filling of orders. You will also follow safety measures and practices, including using back safety belts when lifting, and will be required to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Driving agency vehicles for bulk food pick-up and delivery of client groceries will also be part of your duties. You will train and supervise volunteers, ensuring they complete daily tasks in compliance with Food Pantry policies and procedures. This includes filling Food Pantry orders, unpacking bulk items, and correctly stocking shelves. Additionally, you will manage inventory, maintain sanitation logs, and process food donations. You will work closely with the Social Services Coordinator to create and implement training systems for volunteers and recognize their contributions through various acknowledgment methods. Your role will also involve filling Food Pantry orders for home delivery, answering client questions, and orienting new clients to the procedures for accessing food. You will ensure quality control measures are followed to increase accuracy when filling orders and will follow up with clients to update eligibility documents. Overall, this position is crucial in supporting the community and ensuring that individuals in need receive the assistance they require.

Responsibilities
? Receive food and supply deliveries; select and pick up food from suppliers; and stock and organize Food Pantry for optimal filling of Food Pantry orders.

? Supervise and assist volunteers in completing daily tasks in compliance with Food Pantry policies and procedures.

? Perform routine sanitation, freezer/refrigeration temperature log maintenance, and inventory rotation.

? Manage the inventory of the Food Pantry.

? Create, implement, and maintain an internal system for training Food Pantry volunteers.

? Fill Food Pantry orders if needed, answer client questions, and orient new clients to procedures for accessing food.

Requirements
? High school diploma or GED required.
,
? One year of experience in coordinating, training, monitoring, and retaining volunteers required.
,
? One year of experience in delivering customer service required.
,
? Food Handler Certificate within 3 months of hire required.
,
? Must have a valid driver's license and ability to operate agency vehicle for Food Bank activities.
,
? Knowledge of ordering supplies and calculating inventory.
,
? Experience working with individuals of diverse cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities and/or expressions.

? Experience working with clients with substance use disorders.
,
? Strong interpersonal skills and skill in volunteer management and retention.
,
? Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Nice-to-haves
? Training in harm reduction principles and Motivational Interviewing skills preferred.

? Knowledge of HIV and AIDS preferred.
,
? Knowledge of community HIV/AIDS organizations.
,
? Working knowledge of Spanish language (bilingual) is a plus.
