Job description: Under the leadership of the Director of Integrated Academic Support Services, the Assistant Director of Writing Studio plans and supervises all the academic support services for writing that includes academic programming, graduate/undergraduate tutor staff management, development, and administration of the Writing Studio. Primary responsibility of coordination and implementation is to provide tutorial services for writing across the curriculum. The individual may also teach Student Success courses in study skills. The ideal candidate will contribute to the mission and vision of the Office of Student Success to include providing professional consultations for referred students and serve as a resource.The following are the functions essential to performing this job:
1. Develop and implement academic support programs with faculty collaboration to meet undergraduate and graduate student needs; the focus to be on writing workshops for research, APA/MLA writing, themed writing, basic skills, and writing-across-the-curriculum.
2. Assess outcomes of Writing Studio and academic programs for effectiveness and with a focus on continuous improvement of program content and customer service. 3. Manage efficient year-round operations including summer programs of the Writing Studio including the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, evaluation, and supervision, of undergraduate and graduate writing tutors. Consult with faculty for referrals of students with strong writing skills.
4. Assist with monitoring online tutoring services provided by Tutor.com.
5. Provide and market current and appropriate on-line writing resources to include the implementation and management of Vantage software - Correct English for tutors and ELL.
6. Maintain documentation of tutorial session forms to collect, manage, and analyze data for statistical reports on tutorial sessions, student performance, and Writing Studio usage.
7. Develop and perform outreach activities, including classroom visits, and presentations to student organizations, new student orientations, Open House, Welcome Days, Spring Receptions, and other related University activities.
8. Assist in the development and delivery of comprehensive training modules for the Office of Student Success' paraprofessional peer educator staff.
9. Monitor and report budgetary expenditures of tutor wages regularly for Title III reporting.
10. Submit completion and quality of all work in basic research methods and writing according to the established guidelines and procedures documented in the Office of Student Success Reporting Structure/Guidelines for Monthly, Quarterly, Semester, and Annual Reports.
11. Work collaboratively with others, in particular fostering collegiality between writing tutors and faculty, maintain flexibility in her/his work, and be adaptable to change. 12. Work as contributing member of the Office of Student Success' Integrated Academic Support Services to support and assist with its mission and to help students achieve academic success.
13. Teach Learning Strategies as needed.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The individual in this job must possess these skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation using some other combination of skills and abilities: 1. Must possess a strong background in Writing Center tutoring, (including experience with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) training and certification of tutors preferred). 2. Ability to utilize tutor tracking software for the purposes of collecting data to document the effectiveness of writing sessions and workshops/programs and its impact on student success in order to improve services. 3. Knowledge of student development theory and/or learning theory, instruction, and study skills methods. 4. Ability to expand knowledge by keeping abreast of current literature and readings in the field and on student success. 5. Knowledge of: Grammar, punctuation, vocabulary concerns; the writing process; rhetoric and composition theory and pedagogy; Writing center theory and pedagogy; best practices for student tutoring and training, and versed in various writing styles (i.e. APA, MLA, etc.). 6. Must be familiar with Microsoft Programs (Outlook Calendar, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Publisher) and willing and able to learn other database systems (such as BANNER). 7. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to effectively make public presentations. 8. Must possess sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse background. Must be optimistic, positive, and supportive in all interactions with others. 9. Demonstrate experience in working with students, faculty, departmental staff, and campus administrators as well as off-campus contacts. 10. Ability to work independently and without intense supervision, but also effectively contribute to a leadership team with a service-oriented philosophy. 11. Must possess outstanding organizational skills and produce quality work under deadlines. 13. Demonstrate flexibility in a changing administrative model.1. Master's Degree in English, Education, or related field.
2. Minimum of three years' experience teaching and working at the university level and prior administrative experience developing appropriate writing support programs. 3. Supervisory and/or training experience is a must.
4. Excellent analytical skills for evaluation, analysis, and interpretation.
5. Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and faculty are essential.
6. Maintain effective working relationships with other people.
